Minor in ESG

The goal of the ESG minor is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of sustainability through the ESG concept. With the elective courses, students will be able to choose a specific focus on individual areas within environmental (E) and social sustainability (S) or sustainable corporate governance (G). Students will not only gain an overview of current trends in the field of sustainability but will also acquire skills associated with, for example, calculating carbon footprints or drafting a non-financial report, which will be part of the mandatory public reports of every company. Additionally, students will be able to understand the overall interconnection of various ESG themes to the overall strategy of the company, its financial performance, and value creation for all its stakeholders.

Upon completing the minor, students will be able to:

  • Design an ESG strategy for a company,
  • Manage sustainability-related projects,
  • Describe the legislative and institutional framework of ESG,
  • Define and analyze trends in sustainability,
  • Understand and evaluate the overall interconnectedness of the various ESG areas,
  • Acquire and evaluate data for successful company management with regard to its sustainability and compliance with ESG philosophy,
  • Create a non-financial report for a specific company.

The minor is primarily offered in English. Many topics, scientific articles, and textbooks are not localized, and we believe that knowledge and orientation in ESG issues in English will be an advantage for better real-world performance of graduates. However, some elective courses will also be offered in Czech, especially those that inherently include a local context due to their nature (e.g., labor relations, legislative requirements).

Like all other minors at the University of Economics, Prague, the ESG minor does not have a comprehensive final exam from the academic year 2023/2024.

To complete the minor, only 30 ECTS in the required structure need to be studied. However, it is possible to conclude the ESG minor by the course 33F426 – ESG project, which is practically oriented, without regular lectures/practices, where students work in a team on a real ESG project with a corporate partner under the supervision and mentoring of the project leader from the Faculty of Business Administration.

Conditions for enrollment in the minor:

Registration and enrollment in the minor specialization take place in InSIS (My Studies – Student Portal – Registration/Enrollments in Minor Specializations), and no conditions are set for enrollment. The minor is offered to students for the first time in the winter semester of 2023/2024.
